Why are these frozen yogurt pops healthy?
These delicious treats are healthy since they contain fresh fruit, yogurt and also honey. Honey is rich in antioxidants which can help in reducing blood pressure, they definitely are a more healthier option compared to sugar and of course taste great in this frozen treat!
Yogurt is extremely healthy as well. Yogurt is full of calcium and proteins and is said to help in weight loss too! This dessert is definitely a better option than any other unhealthy evening snack that you would generally munch on.
Why use Greek yogurt or hung curd?
First of all – what is hung curd? Hung curd is curd with all excess water released from it. You can do this by keeping yogurt in muslin cloth on a sieve for at least 3 hours or overnight to drain out most of the water from it which makes the curd thicker too, while Greek yogurt is already strained and removed of its whey and is quite thick.
Greek yogurt or hung curd is used for this recipe since it ensures there are no or less amount of ice crystals when freezing. The water content is thus removed from yogurt. If you don’t use hung curd or Greek yogurt you would end up with a more icy frozen pop and will make a difference in flavor.
Recipe:
Ingredients :
3/4th cup Hung curd or greek yogurt
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup frozen mango (Any frozen fruit of your choice)
Method:
Blend together your hung curd, honey, vanilla extract and frozen fruit. You can either chopp your fruit and then freeze it or buy frozen fruit.
You can freeze your frozen yogurt mix any way you like. I am freezing it in Large silicon ice molds and inserting half a popsicle stick into that. I also froze them in chocolate molds and inserted half a toothpick in.
You can make popsicles by freezing the mix into popsicle molds. You can also freeze it in a container and then scoop it out!
